We no longer do goopy dental impressions at TO! That’s right, our “impression” process is totally digital now–whether you are getting braces, Invisalign®, or new retainers. At Total Orthodontics, we are thrilled to utilize the industry gold standard iTero™️ Digital Impression system. With the iTero™️ Digital system, the discomfort of traditional putty impressions is a thing of the past!
Why Do We Use Digital Scanning?
Whatever treatment you choose, it is crucial for patients to have an accurate impression to ensure the treatment is planned effectively and care is optimized. The level of detail and precision obtained from an iTero™️ scan far surpasses that of a traditional putty impression, much like comparing a modern smartphone camera to a grainy camera from a decade ago.
How iTero™️ Works
The iTero™️ handheld wand captures a digital 3D image of your teeth, allowing for pauses as needed. The wand is noninvasive, allowing you to breathe and swallow naturally during the procedure. You can move or adjust as necessary, and the wand’s accuracy ensures that needing to “re-do” impressions is rare. Additionally, you can watch the iTero™️ 3D image on the screen in real time as the orthodontist moves the wand, providing immediate feedback and adjustments.
Instead of shipping impressions to a lab, your scan is sent instantly to either our in-house lab or a variety of outside labs. This saves you time!
3D Printing
Appliances we make in-house, primarily retainers, are made from 3D resin models that we print right here! These are very accurate, and this allows us to keep your “model” on file indefinitely. Lost your retainer at college? Just give us a call, and in most cases, we can use the digital model and ship you a retainer right to your door!
